Looking at contemporary scenes from American playwrights, actors will spend 3 classes breaking down the text, discussing dynamic blocking, creating characterization, and discussing presence as it pertains to listening. 

Actors MUST commit to all three dates. July 25th, August 22nd & Sept. 19th - Classes run on Sunday for three hours(4-7 pm EST).

Class 1: Read through of pre assigned scenes 
Class 2: Rehearsal of scenes with notes
Class 3: Final performance of scenes. 

Students will be asked to rehearse with their partners between classes. 

This class is limited to 8 Studio Members on a first come/first served basis. Instructor approval is required so if you are interested please email your materials to jami@actorplaybook.com.

Any actors with a monthly, quarterly or bi-annual membership to ActorPlaybook are eligible to enroll in this class for no extra fee.

Alexandra Wright has a BA from the University of Southern California (Recipient of Doolittle Award: Outstanding Female Performer of graduating class) and an MFA from ART/MXAT at Harvard University. Acting has taken her to Paris, London, Scotland, and Moscow and has given her the opportunity to work with exceptional artists, such as Neil Patrick Harris, Neil Gaiman, Scott Zigler, and Kevin Bright. As a coach, Alexandra has consulted with actors, lawyers, medical professionals, public speakers, and CEOs on helping them build their brand and find their specific and unique voices. Her specialty lies in understanding how upbringing, background, gender, race, sexuality, and trauma shape performance as it relates to body language, communication skills, voice, and presence. 

She currently teaches voice, Shakespeare, emotional theory, and on camera technique at UCLA, Loyola Marymount University, Azusa Pacific University, and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.  

Her many stage roles include Helena in the L.A. Philharmonic’s production of A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Walt Disney Concert Hall; Rosalind in As You Like It (American Repertory Theatre); Lady Macbeth in Macbeth (Odyssey Theatre); Bec in the Los Angeles premiere of 4000 Miles (SMP); Chick in Crimes of the Heart (International City Theatre, Long Beach); Lady Percy in Henry IV, Part I (Shakespeare Orange County); and Edmund in King Lear (Will Geer’s Theatricum Botanicum). Wright also has more than 50 television, film and commercial credits under her belt, including SolveChicago PD, and This is Us.

You MUST have a reliable internet connection in order to have the optimal experience. ActorPlaybook will NOT credit you if your class experience is affected by internet or technical issues on your end.

The start time of each class along with the respective time zone is listed clearly on the class page. It is your responsibility to mark your calendars accordingly. ActorPlaybook will NOT credit you if you did not take the time zone of the class into account.
